Inference covers AI models, tools, business, policy, and how AI is actually being used across industries. Written for people who need to stay current, not hype-chase.
What we cover
Model Releases. New LLMs, benchmarks, and what actually changed
AI Tools. Hands-on reviews tested against real tasks, not demos
Research. Papers explained in plain language, without dumbing down the substance
Business & Funding, the deals, the money, and what they signal
Policy & Regulation. What's actually required, by whom, and when
AI in Industry. How healthcare, legal, finance, education, and creative work are actually changing
Image, Video & Audio Generation. Generative media, tested against real production briefs
Robotics. Embodied AI, separated from the demo-reel hype
AI Safety & Ethics. Alignment, red-teaming, and bias auditing, explained without either dismissal or doom
Guides & Tutorials. Practical, step-by-step help for actually using these tools well
Our full Model Tracker is a structured, ongoing log of notable model releases, and our pillar guides are evergreen explainers we keep current as the underlying technology changes.
How we work
We write to be read critically. AI coverage is unusually prone to two failure modes (uncritical hype and reflexive dismissal) and we try to avoid both, testing tools against real tasks rather than demos, explaining research accurately rather than dumbing it down, and being explicit about what's genuinely uncertain rather than manufacturing false confidence in either direction.
Our full editorial process, including exactly how and where we use AI tools ourselves, is detailed in our Editorial Standards and AI Disclosure pages. We think a publication covering AI should be unusually transparent about its own use of it.
Our team
Inference is written by a small team of reporters and editors, each with a defined beat:
Priya Nandakumar, Senior AI Reporter. Model releases, benchmarks, and research
Marcus Webb, Business & Policy Editor. Funding, deals, and regulation
Dr. Sofia Reyes, Contributing Editor, AI in Industry. Healthcare, legal, finance, education, and creative applications
Jordan Ade, Tools & Tutorials Editor. Hands-on tool reviews and how-to guides
Elena Kowalski, Safety & Robotics Correspondent. Alignment, safety research, and embodied AI
